The Rev. John Spicer
Fr. John came to St. Andrew’s in 2005 as assistant rector. In 2011, he became priest-in-charge and was called as rector in 2012. He and his wife, Ann, have two grown children, Kathryn and Dan. Fr. John loves writing and is the author of the book Beating the Boundaries: The Church God is Calling Us to Be. He believes passionately in the church’s call to mission, whether in our Brookside/Waldo neighborhood or with our partners in Haiti. In his spare time, Fr. The Rev. Anne Hutcherson
Mtr. Anne came to us in 2007, following ordination and a career traveling the world before unexpectedly landing in seminary. She has served as Associate Rector for much of her 10 years with us before taking retirement a bit more seriously and now is serving part-time. She continues some liturgical presence but is focused on her primary passion, pastoral care. Mtr. The Rev. Jeff Stevenson
Fr. Jeff joined the St. Andrew’s team in July 2018. He and his husband, Noah, came to us from the Washington, D.C., area. Fr. Jeff graduated from the Virginia Theological Seminary after a long-deferred sense of call to the priesthood. This is a third career for Fr. Jeff. Both his previous careers – first in the Navy and then as national security consultant – took him around the world. He has a passion for engaging with people and meaningful liturgy, so it’s perfect that his responsibilities focus on pastoral care and worship. Fr. The Ven. Bruce Bower
Deacon Bruce and his wife, Joy, have been members of St. Andrew's for over three decades. Once retired, Bruce pursued a calling to the diaconate and became ordained in 2014. He was assigned to serve at St. Andrew's to develop servant leaders and to pursue his passion for pastoral care ministries...bringing lay ministers into relationship with people in need of God's grace during times of challenge. He is also focused on bringing joy to worship. In 2016, Bishop Field appointed Bruce as archdeacon of the Diocese of West Missouri. His ministry also includes being pastoral leader of all the deacons in our diocese and representing them at the national church level. Director of Operations and Community Connections
Zach came to St. Andrew’s in the spring of 2018. He has a degree in business administration and a background in community engagement, including national service in AmeriCorps, where he proudly served two years in the Kansas City Public Schools. Adult Formation Coordinator
Cheryl has an undergraduate degree in religious studies, and graduate degrees in clinical psychology and counseling. In addition to her professional career, she has taught adult Christian education, English as a second language, and U.S. citizenship prep. Nina has worked at St. Andrew’s for more than 10 years. She has a background in mathematics and has always worked in the finance world, mainly for a company that she and her husband owned. Adam is a newcomer to St. Andrew’s. He and his wife Kimberly joined the Parish in January, 2019. Adam has proudly served the City of Kansas City as a professional firefighter and EMT for 15 years. He is an active Freemason, loves to cook for a crowd, and enjoys serving others (especially coffee and espresso drinks).
Minister for Children, Youth, Younger Adults, and Families
Jean has been a member of St. Andrew’s since 1997. She became children’s ministry director in 2005 and was in this position until 2011. In 2015, Jean joined the staff at St. Andrew’s once again as the youth ministry coordinator. She and her husband, Paul, have three girls. HJ's Community Liaison
Kathy joined the St. Andrew's staff as a VISTA in February 2019. She has a background in local nonprofits, including Show Me KC Schools and Literacy Lab. She says her most defining experience, though, was teaching English in Tanzania as a Peace Corps volunteer. She grew up in the area and is an MU journalism graduate. Colleen Simon came to St. Andrew’s in 2017 as our night receptionist and was promoted in May 2018. She spent 20 years in pharmaceutical sales before gaining her certification in Faith and Social Justice from the University of Dayton. Colleen was regional director of the Office of Justice & Peace for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Richmond, VA, and has worked in Catholic parishes and nonprofits in Kansas City. Dr. Thomas R. (Tom) Vozzella
Director of Music & Organist
Tom has served St. Andrew's as director of music and organist since 2014. He and his wife, Cathy, have one daughter, Ashley. Both mother and daughter sing in St. Andrew’s choirs. When not preparing and presenting music, Tom has served both the American Guild of Organists and American Choral Directors Association in leadership roles, locally, regionally, and nationally. Junior Warden & Worship Liaison
Lora has been a St. Andrew’s member since 1997 and was married at St. Andrew’s that same year. She is currently the Assistant to the Director at Highlawn Montessori School in Prairie Village where she has worked in various roles over the last 12 years. Prior to that, Lora was a banking professional working at UMB and the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. Lora has served on the St. Andrew’s Altar Guild, Worship Commission, and is currently serving her second term on Vestry. Lora loves spending time with her husband, daughter, and son at the Lake of the Ozarks and in Colorado.
Parish Care & Human Resources Liaison
Jan is a fourth generation Episcopalian and has been a member of St. Andrew’s since 2006. She is a retired Human Resources Manager, having worked in the field for more than 35 years. She retired from Black & Veatch in 2012, after 20 years. At St. Andrew’s, she is actively involved in the Order of St. Luke and volunteers in the Church office every Tuesday afternoon. She is passionate about caring and praying for parishioners in need.
Adult Formation Liaison
Vin has been a member of St. Andrew’s since 2013. He is a professor of history at Johnson County Community College, where he has taught since 1988. At St. Andrew’s, he is the vestry liaison to the Adult Formation Commission. He is also the lector coordinator for the 10:15 service and the convener of A Christian Journey, a class which explores challenging issues in Christian faith and life. He finds the discussion of such issues among friends to be both interesting and valuable.
Theatre Troupe Liaison
Bert and his wife, Jill, have been at St. Andrew's since 2014. He has a J.D. from Boston University School of Law and a B.F.A. in Drama from Carnegie Mellon University. He began his law practice in Washington, DC with Public Citizen, taught at Georgetown University Law Center, served as the Commissioner at the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Commission, and is the author of three books on administrative law practice. Bert began his interest in theater with "shows" he produced in his family garage and numerous appearances in Christmas Pageants at church.
Dorothy Curry – a St. Andrew’s member since 1988, a late-in-life graduate of the Kansas City Art Institute, a founder of the Gordon Parks Elementary School, and a mother/grandmother/great-grandmother – is passionate about the future. She loves St. Andrew’s and all its inspiring, forward-looking outreach projects, particularly those involved in underserved children’s education. She is happy to be the Vestry liaison to the Outreach Commission, with its variety of missionary journeys.
Stephen has been a St. Andrew's member since 2014. He joined the church after marrying his wife, Cate Stark, who is a third-generation member. He is an attorney and lobbyist in Topeka. At St. Andrew’s, Stephen heads up the Stewardship Ministry. Stephen, Cate, and their daughter, Clara, enjoy the welcoming, traditional worship environment at St. Andrews, as well as the wonderful opportunities the church offers for young families. He resides in the Kansas City area.
Young Adult Ministry Liaison
Victoria has been a St. Andrew's member for about 20 years. Her journey as a young member of St. Andrew's was dedicated mostly to being an Acolyte, but also included volunteering in Sunday School and the Nursery! Currently, Victoria is a Compensation Analyst at AMC Theatres, where she has served since 2017, and she has been a Human Resources Professional for 8 years. Victoria is passionate about spending as much time as she can with friends and family and is also passionate about being involved in the Kansas City community!
Brian is a devoted father, grandfather, husband to Betsy (35 years) and dog whisperer to his Yellow Lab and Newfie. When not working as a Financial Planner and Wealth Advisor at Premier Financial Partners, you’ll find him enjoying time with his family, fly fishing, camping, extreme snow skiing, and Upland Bird and duck hunting.
Children's Ministry Liaison
Julia Jackson has been a lifelong member of St. Andrew’s. She teaches school workshop classes at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, where she has taught art since 1997. At St. Andrew’s, Julia is also a member of the parish choir and is involved in the theatre ministry. She is very active in the Daughters of the American Revolution and is an avid seamstress, voracious reader, and enthusiastic drinker of coffee.
Community Connections Liaison
George has been a parishioner at St. Andrew’s since marrying his wife, Carolyn, in 1966. He has enjoyed a career in commercial land development and was in the Air Force Reserve as a Technical Sergeant in the 36th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron. At St. Andrew’s, George has enjoyed teaching Sunday School, being on the Haiti team, Vestry, and is currently a part of Community Connections working with outreach in Brookside and Waldo through HJ’s ongoing programs and events. He also keeps busy with Kansas City Community Gardens, Extension Master Gardeners, his own backyard vegetable garden, ocean sailing, mentoring federal inmates at USP Leavenworth, and traveling to visit his grandchildren.
Youth Ministry Liaison
While Erin was baptized as an Episcopalian, it wasn’t until recognizing her children’s spiritual needs that she found St. Andrew’s. She, and her husband Steve, began attending St. Andrew’s in 2010. Their two children, Morgan and Damon, are both active in the youth programs and can regularly be found acolyting on a Sunday morning. Erin is active in the youth ministry and is a proud co-host of St. Andrew’s Trivia Night. In addition to her work at St. Andrew’s, Erin is involved in the leadership of the KS-MO chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and is an author of fiction and non-fiction for adults and children alike.
Ann has been a member of St. Andrews since 1998. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor, in private practice for 30 years. She is active in the Discernment Commission and Trinity Guild, and previously, she organized the Backsnack program. Her passions include group therapy, teaching, reading, and all forms of art.
Ann has been a member since 1995. She was a hostess for TWA for 20 years and ran the Au Pair program for the American Institute for Foreign Study for 17. At St. Andrew’s, she has been involved in the Haiti mission, the OutReach Commission as Comptroller, Loaves and Fishes, assists in funeral coordinating, and is a past Sr. Warden.
Treasurer & Finance Liaison
Paul has been a member at St. Andrew’s since 2012. He owns and operates a business providing management services to senior living communities. His organization has been in business since 1992. At St. Andrew’s, Paul has served on the Vestry, Adult Formation, Parish Engagement, and Finance Commissions. His passions for ministry centers on the importance of listening to others tell their personal faith-life stories.

Melissa has been a member of St. Andrew's for 18 years. She has served in many roles, including garden guild, altar guild, facility commission, outreach commission, lector, Eucharistic Minister, Vestry member, Free Store Coordinator, and Sr. Warden. Her background has primarily been in the field of secondary education. She has done consulting work for the Family Conservancy and currently runs a small real estate development business with her husband, Stephen, in upstate New York. She is also a mom to three grown daughters who grew up at St. Andrew's. Melissa truly believes in the saying “paying it forward.” She finds true joy and passion in being with people who want to live each day to their fullest in helping others.

Terry has been a member at St. Andrew’s since 1992. He has practiced law as a litigator at Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP since 1989. At St. Andrew’s, he has served on the vestry, chaired the finance commission, and is currently providing legal advice as Chancellor. His outside interests include golf, history, and family activities.
