Youth

Stand, our ministry for 6th through 12th grade students, is hustling and bustling! We have youth active in many areas of church life: more than 60 acolytes who serve once a month during our services, a Scout troop with almost 70 kids who provide more than 500 hours of service annually, monthly youth and family volunteer opportunities, regular Youth Group meetings, and a Student Leadership Team that helps mentor and lead our younger kids in Youth Group.

Youth Ministry at St. Andrew’s has three main goals:

  • Foster a fun, safe, and positive atmosphere where youth can grow closer to one another in Christ.
  • Draw young people into responsible participation in our church, our community, and our world.
  • Advance the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person.

Why is our youth ministry called “Stand”? We seek to empower young people – no matter where they are in their faith journeys – to find their voices, question their beliefs, and make connections so they may come to know for themselves what they stand for.

Acolytes

The acolyte program is a vibrant ministry for kids in 6th through 12th grades. Acolytes serve once a month at one of our Sunday services. Youth say their time as an acolyte has deepened their spiritual life. They grow in understanding and appreciation of worship, and they build new friendships. If your youth is looking for a way to connect at St. Andrew’s, the acolyte program is a warm, welcoming place to be.

Christmas Tree Lot

The Youth Ministry’s annual fundraiser is the Christmas Tree Lot. Youth sell Christmas trees beginning the day after Thanksgiving through the week before Christmas. Youth and parents who work the Christmas tree lot “earn” money for their individual accounts so youth may use this money to help pay for any church-related activities. Activities might include the winter ski retreat, mission trips, or other diocesan youth events.

Youth & Family Mission Outreach Services

We provide opportunities for youth and their parents to volunteer side by side, both locally and abroad. By volunteering together, families share in the experience of helping others, which helps foster conversations and spiritual growth. Families share what it means to do mission work, what they gain from the experience, how God is in the work at hand, and how loving your neighbor spreads the love of Christ. On June 7-12, 2017, St. Andrew’s Youth Ministry embarked on its first youth mission trip to Haiti. Read more about our partnership with St. Augustin’s Episcopal Church and School in Maniche, Haiti.
