St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church is delighted to welcome Dr. Nathaniel Gumbs, Organist of Riverside Church in New York City, for a concert on Tuesday, September 23, at 7 p.m. A native of The Bronx, Dr. Gumbs has performed widely throughout the United States and internationally—in Antigua, St. Thomas, Ghana, Paris, and Munich—earning recognition as a dynamic artist who continually attracts new audiences. He currently serves as Director of Chapel Music at Yale University, coordinating music for three worshiping communities, and has previously led music ministries at the historic Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem and Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC. Dr. Gumbs studied at Shenandoah Conservatory, Yale University, and the Eastman School of Music, where his principal teachers included Steven Cooksey, David Higgs, and Martin Jean. A contributing composer and recording artist, he recently released his first solo organ album, King of Kings: Organ Music of Black Composers, Past and Present.
